A Massive and Rare French Naval bronze / brass flintlock swivel cannon (ESPINGOLE), circa 1770's. The 1-inch diameter bore (4 straight cylindrical bore) octagon to round bronze / brass cannon barrel is 22.5 inches long. Lock is marked M Rle Charleville (French Arsenal) and the lock plate is 7.75 inch long; Heavy brass furniture; Stock has an age stress crack underneath the rear of lock plate, otherwise, solid with normal scratches and dings from years of service. This weapon has had at least three other post and yokes judging from the marks they left behind on the stock. The front ram rod entry pipe is missing. The post and yoke are a replacements. A very nice flintlock swivel cannon in untouched condition, 39 inches overall length and in good working order.
