BRONZE PINFIRE GUNS For over 15 years I collected and studied Bronze Pinfire Guns.
They ranged from the large 12MM revolvers to as small as 5MM revolvers. Most of the Bronze Pinfire Guns
were 7MM revolvers and 7MM pepperboxes . The revolver shown below is one of the pieces from the collection.

12 MM Bronze Pinfire Revolver has scroll engraving on the frame and cylinder.
The barrel is 5 inches long and the over all length of the revolver is 10.5 inches. Grips are checkered wood and
are fair condition with damage and old restoration.
The gun's action fuctions but at one chamber the cylinder does not rotate. This gun has seen much use and the loading gate has been
replaced, grips have old repairs.
The over all condition of this hard to find 12MM bronze pinfire revolver is fair to good. Most of the large 12mm bronze pinfires guns that I
found were in poor condition because of hard use.
MARKINGS: The barrel is marked with LEPAGE with his Paris address. The gun was not made in France because it has Liege Belgian Proof mark and inspector's mark, crown over the letter V, are located on the cylinder and inspector's mark is also located on the right side of barrel frame just below ejector rod. With this type of inspector mark, the gun was made before 1877 in Liege Belgian. At the Great Western Gun Show in LA in 1992 or 93, I had two 7MM Bronze Pinfire Guns on display on my table in the hope of finding more. Two older gentleman (89 years old) were looking at the bronze guns, one was telling the other that he took his 12MM pinfire out that morning and shot it. I told him that shooting pinfire guns was not safe because of the ammunition and the old steel used in the guns. He then tells me that his gun was not made of steel, but bronze and he made his own ammo for it. He said that he might be old but not crazy. He only loaded enough black powder to get the bullet out the barrel and most of the time it hit the ground 20 or 30 feet away. I later went to his house and purchased the gun for my collection |
