BRONZE PINFIRE GUNS For over 15 years I collected and studied Bronze Pinfire Guns.
They ranged from the large 12MM revolvers to as small as 5MM revolvers. Most of the Bronze Pinfire Guns
were 7MM revolvers and 7MM pepperboxes . The revolver shown below is one of the pieces from the collection.

12 MM Bronze (may be brass?) Pinfire Revolver is not engraved which is unusual becasue all most all bronze pinfire guns are engraved.
The octagon barrel is 6.1 inches long and the over all length of the revolver is 10.5 inches. Grips are checkered wood and
are in good condition with eight notches cut into the wood near the back strap on the left grip. This may be the number of kills or
just something added by a questionable dealer trying to make the gun worth more money. The frame is maked with LT. BURT on the frame
behind the trigger. The back strap is marked with GETTYBURG and BULLRUN . All three of the marking looks like they are old
markings done with the same stamps. The other marking is C.S.A. on the frame at the back side of the cylinder. This was done with a different
stamp and looks newer. If you were a Confederate, there was no battle of Bullrun as maked on the back strap; in the South it was called the
battle of Manassas. I consider the C.S.A. marking fake and probably done by a questionable dealer. The hammer shows at one time this gun was
made to also shoot centerfire cartridge but the centerfire point on hammer has been cut off and the hole in frame pluged.
The gun's action does not fuctions becasue there is no trigger or trigger guard. When I got the gun it had a trigger guard but it did not belong to
the gun and I removed it. I planned to restore the trigger and guard along with the missing loading gate
but never got around to doing it.
The over all condition of this hard to find 12MM bronze pinfire revolver is poor to fair. Most of the large 12mm bronze pinfires guns that I
found were in poor condition because of hard use.
MARKINGS: Liege Belgian Proof mark and inspector's mark, crown over the letter U, are located on the cylinder and inspector's mark is also located on the lower right side of the barrel frame. With this type of inspector mark, the gun was made before 1877. A crown over the letters EL is located on the left side of the barrel near the cylinder. The numbers 206289 are stamped on the left side of the frame. |
