BRONZE PINFIRE GUNS Over the last 15 years I have collected and studied Bronze Pinfire Guns.
They ranged from the large 12MM revolvers to as small as 5MM revolvers. Most of the Bronze Pinfire Guns
were 7MM revolvers and 7MM pepperboxes . The pepperbox shown below is one of the pieces from the collection.

Pepperbox made by Engholm of Sweden

Rare Brass 7MM Pinfire Pepperbox made by Johan Engholm of Qdestugu, Smaland, Sweden. H e was noted
for making brass percussion pepperboxs with hand rotated cylinders. This is one of a very few, if
not the only one, known surviving example Engholm made pepperboxs made to shoot the pinfire cartridge.
Many books list this style being made by Burton and Benjamin Darling of Woonsocket, RI. Later finding
show that all of this style of pepperbox pistols were probably made by Engholm of Sweden. This gun is
pictured on page 153 of THE PINFIRE SYSTEM by Gene Smith and Chris Curtis (see photo at bottom
of this page). In the book, the authors believe that J. Englehart of Nazareth, PA working under a
Darling license made this gun. I do not believe this to be correct.
7MM Brass Pinfire Pepper box has 3-inch long 6 shot barrel. The gun looks identical to the percussion
version except for very well fitted loading gate on the right side of the frame. The hammer is 2 stage
single action and the cylinder is hand rotated, which is the same as the percussion version. The gun is
in good working order and condition showing only some wear on the wood grips.
