Emerson & Silver manufactured edges weapons form 1810 to 1868. James E. Emerson is listed as being in business from 1810 in Beaver Falls PA. In 1830, he formed the EMERSON SMITH & CO which invented a new knife making process. During the American Civil War from 1860 to 1865, James E. Emerson and Joseph S. Silver formed the company, EMERSON & SILVER in Trenton, New Jersey . The company had U.S. contracts for bayonets, swords and sabers (see list below), and also made other items, that included plows and axes. They owned the Keysone Edge Tool Works Factory in Philadelphia PA and the Malleable Iron Works Factory in Trenton NJ (all swords made at Trenton) and had offices in New York from 1860 to 1864. With James E. Emerson as partner, in 1865 the name was changed to JOSEPH E. SILVER & CO and moved to New York. In 1866, the name was changed again to JOSEPH S. SILVER JR and continued to manufacture farm and edge tools along with regalia items.
